Gravel Planning Ideas

Estimate aggregate for paths, driveways, and landscaping before you order a truckload.

What you get

  • Gravel type presets with density
  • Length × width or total area × depth
  • Volume in yd³ / m³ and weight in tons
  • Cost by ton or by cubic yard

Helpful extras

  • Feet, inches, yards, meters, or centimeters
  • Separate depth unit (e.g. inches on a foot plan)
  • Waste allowance for compaction and spill
  • Pea gravel, crushed stone, pit-run, and more

How we calculate

  • area = L × W
  • volume = area × depth
  • weight = volume × density
  • order = volume × (1 + waste)

A cubic yard of gravel often weighs about 2,400–2,900 lb (roughly 1.2–1.5 tons), depending on stone size, moisture, and voids. This tool uses the density for the gravel type you pick.

Paths and decorative beds are often 2–3 inches. Driveways usually need a thicker base (often 4+ inches, sometimes in layers). Add a little waste for compaction and uneven ground.
